The one-click legal kit. The Safelite Panel V2 with your supplementary number plate already fitted. Order once, fill in the plate form on this page, and it arrives at your door fully assembled and 100% road legal, ready to plug straight into your towbar.

Stop risking fines and rear-end collisions. The Safelite Panel V2 is the premium bike rack light bar Kiwi drivers trust to stay safe and legal on the road. Designed and built right here in New Zealand, it keeps your indicators, brake lights and number plate fully visible the moment bikes go on the back of your car.

What's new in V2

  • Four fixture locations for more mounting options on more rack styles.
  • Four bungee cords supplied instead of two, so the panel is held firmly at four points.
  • Centre indent for single-pole racks, so single-pole setups mount cleanly.
  • Left and right mounts beside the lights, which pull the panel tight and centred on racks that suit neither a two-pole nor a single-pole fitting.
  • Updated number plate holes that fit every current New Zealand supplementary plate design.
  • Foam backing, coming soon - a foam-backed version of the V2 panel is on its way.

Supplementary plate fitted for you, ready to go

Fill in the form on this page with your registration and vehicle details, place your order, and we lodge the application for your supplementary plate with Licensys, the authorised NZ number plate supplier, on your behalf. Once the plate arrives with us, we fit it to the mounting holes on your Safelite panel and ship the completed unit out to you. No paperwork, no second courier, no fitting it yourself.

Please allow extra time for this option, as we need to wait for Licensys to manufacture and deliver your plate before we can complete and dispatch your Safelite. We keep you posted at each stage.

Why Kiwi drivers choose the Safelite bike rack light bar

  • Two-pole, single-pole and everything else. Two-pole racks remain the ideal fit, single-pole racks mount through the centre indent, and the side mounts hold it tight on the rest.
  • On in seconds, off in seconds - four heavy-duty bungee cords with easy-lock toggles. No tools, no fuss, no fiddling in the rain.
  • Built tough for NZ roads - UV-stable, waterproof aluminium composite that shrugs off rain, dust, salt spray and everyday knocks.
  • Bright, water-resistant LED lights - manufactured to Safelite's own specification for maximum visibility day and night.
  • Plug-and-play wiring - 1.4 m of cable with a standard flat 7-pin trailer plug. Plugs straight into any standard NZ towbar socket.
  • Plate fitted and shipped attached, so you are 100% road legal out of the box.
  • Stores neatly - arrives in a recyclable cardboard box that doubles as a storage case between trips.

Full two-year warranty

What we'll need in the form

Plate details: your current vehicle registration number.

Registration details (individual): date of birth and NZ driver licence number.

Vehicle details: vehicle make and model.

The vehicle must be currently registered and licensed, and the applicant details must match the person or company registered as the legal owner of the vehicle.

Supplementary plate terms and requirements

These criteria are set by Licensys and apply to every supplementary plate issued in New Zealand:

  • The vehicle must be currently registered and licensed.
  • The applicant must be the person or company registered in respect of the vehicle. We can only order a plate in the name of the registered owner.
  • The supplementary plate and the vehicle number plates must display the same registration number.
  • The supplementary plate does not replace the vehicle's registration plates. It is used temporarily while an attachment such as a bike rack obscures the vehicle's number plate.

Good to know about your plate

  • The supplementary plate is supplied at 300 mm x 114 mm, a different size from a standard vehicle plate. The mounting holes on your Safelite panel are sized to suit.
  • Your details, including driver licence number and date of birth, are used solely to lodge the supplementary plate application with Licensys and are handled in line with our privacy policy.

Yes, almost certainly. Mounting holes suit inner and outer distances from 31 cm to 52 cm, so the Safelite Panel fits virtually every bike rack sold in New Zealand, whether you run a Thule, Yakima, Prorack or budget tow-ball rack. Two heavy-duty bungee cords with easy-lock toggles secure it in seconds.

If your bikes or rack cover your car's lights or number plate, the law requires you to make them visible. The Safelite Panel is NZTA compliant and comes with pre-drilled holes and bolts ready for your supplementary number plate, keeping you road legal and avoiding fines and demerits.
